Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program

Learn more about your impact
The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program is unlike any other class offered at ASU. The class combines ASU students (outside students) with an equal number of incarcerated students (inside students) at an Arizona State Prison Complex facility. Inside and outside students have the same syllabus and academic requirements, and students learn about crime and justice together through collaboration and dialogue. Your support provides books, fees and travel costs for students taking the Inside-Out semester-long course.

I took two classes offered by ASU (in prison). They were the only ones in which, for the first time, my old ways of thinking were challenged with a new and better way. It was powerful and transforming."
Impact of Donor Support
Your generosity helps create a truly transformative educational experience that challenges assumptions, fosters empathy and inspires personal growth.
With your support, we are able to cover essential costs such as course materials, student fees and transportation to and from the correctional facility. Your gift makes it possible for students to connect across divides, engage in meaningful conversations and walk away with a deeper understanding of justice, community and the human experience.

My favorite memory from my time with the Center for Correctional Solutions was during an Inside-Out class at the women’s facility. After four years of volunteering, researching and teaching in prison, I heard a woman reflecting on her experience in our class and say, 'I am excited about life again,' with tears in her eyes. I have never felt more purpose in my work and the Center's mission than in that moment.”
