Gifts of cryptocurrency are a powerful way to invest in the innovative and impactful work of Arizona State University. The ASU Foundation for A New American University accepts a wide variety of cryptocurrency and has made the process of giving safe and efficient.
Gifts of cryptocurrency support The Charter Fund, which enables ASU to rapidly act on initiatives that transform public higher education. Just like gifts made with conventional currencies, gifts of cryptocurrency to The Charter Fund can support student success initiatives, faculty endeavors, research, community partnerships and more.
The ASU Foundation uses the Engiven platform to process gifts of cryptocurrency. Engiven automatically exchanges your cryptocurrency donations for U.S. dollars at the time of donation.
You will receive an automated email receipt of your gift that acknowledges the gift currency and the amount realized when the currency was sold. Depending on the size of the gift, you also will receive the appropriate documentation for tax-preparation purposes.
For gifts greater than $500, you will receive form 8283 for noncash charitable contributions. For gifts greater than $5,000, the Engiven platform provides DocuSign routing so the ASU Foundation can provide the requisite signature for your tax documentation.
A gift of cryptocurrency is a good way to support your cause of choice at ASU while also minimizing your tax liability. If you donate crypto (rather than sell it) you get the double benefit of receiving a charitable contribution deduction while also avoiding capital gains.
If you have questions regarding gifts of cryptocurrency, please contact the ASU Foundation Finance Department at crypto@asuep.org or 480-965-7825.
