This scholarship is in memory of Mel Hannah, who dedicated his life to civic leadership and lived his life in service to the State of Arizona. Over the course of 40 years, he served as the chair of the Governor's Arizona Commission on African American Affairs, vice chairman of the Ahwatukee Foothills Village Planning Committee, director of community outreach and job development for the Greater Phoenix Urban League, senior policy advisor in the Phoenix mayoral administration of Greg Stanton, vice president of the NAACP and on the Chancellor's advisory board for the Maricopa Community College District. Widely regarded for his commitment to fighting for civil rights, human rights, and voting rights, this scholarship has been established to support scholars who will help continue the legacy of Mel Hannah.
