In honor of the work of Dr. Stephen Brown, the Stephen W. Brown Services Leadership Scholarship has been established to honor his legacy in the field of service marketing.  

Dr. Brown is an Emeritus Professor of Marketing in the W. P. Carey School of Business. His primary research interest was in the area of service marketing and management. His specific interests included service quality, service failure and recovery, customer adoption and use of self-service technologies, customer-employee interactions, and the transformation of goods dominant firms into offering fee-based service.

His teaching interests were in service marketing and management and in strategic marketing. His secondary interests included marketing theory, marketing research and health care marketing.

Dr. Brown received an Honorary Doctoral Degree from the University of Karlstad, Sweden, in 2006 and an Honorary Doctoral Degree from the HANKEN Swedish School of Economics in Finland in 1999. In 1997, he was named the Winspear Visiting Scholar at the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. In 1985, he was the founding and executive director of the Center for Services Leadership in the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Additionally, Dr. Brown received the SERVSIG Career Contributions award in 1997 from the Service Special Interest Group of the American Marketing Association. Dr. Brown is the recipient of ASU’s Faculty Achievement Award, which recognizes one faculty member from throughout the university annually. He is also a past President of the 50,000 member American Marketing Association.

This scholarship continues his legacy at W. P. Carey and his passion for service and dedication to the students in the program.
